Mixed Herb Bouquet: Basil, Clary Sage, Dill, Marjoram, Mexican Mint Marigold, Oregano, Rosemary, Scented Pelargoniums, Tansy, Thyme, Winter Savory and More

What’s not to love about a paint company that creates the most comforting, soothing colors to both inspire and tempt consumers like me to refresh a few things around the house? And, of course, those “easy-on-the-eye” colors named after an abundance of herbs already growing in my garden was all the motivation needed to start painting!

The back wall in our guest house bedroom will receive a new coat of paint from one of the following options.

Narrowing the choices down to one “perfect” color is going to be challenging. Letting my emotions play into the decision, I’ll probably land somewhere closest to the herb that brings me the greatest joy. These are the seven options, in alphabetical order, with a few comments about each one.

Clary Sage (Sherwin Williams 6178) A muted gray green with a soft yellow cast. In bright daylight, the green reads more clearly, while lower or warmer light can bring out its subdued khaki-gray side.

Herb Bouquet (Benjamin Moore 460) A softened mid-tone green with a gray cast and a gentle olive lean. Its muted saturation keeps it from seeming overly leafy, giving walls a calm, lived-in color that still has clear presence.

Dill (Sherwin William 6438) A muted mid-tone green with a noticeable olive cast and soft yellow-green undertones. Its earthy, slightly grayed character keeps it from reading like a bright garden green.

Dried Thyme (Sherwin Williams 6186) An organic, outdoorsy shade that feels fresh and sophisticated. Cool and calming shades of green with a hint of blue.

Herb Garden (Benjamin Moore 434) A dramatic near-dark shade that is easy to live with. Gives a room real depth.

Rosemary (Sherwin Williams 6187) A rich, gray-toned green that feels calm, earthy and balanced without becoming overpowering.

Tansy Green (Sherwin Williams 6424) A muted olive-leaning green with a noticeable yellow cast, giving it an earthy, sun-warmed appearance.

The natural world provides wonderful options for creating a calm, peaceful and relaxing environment that easily translates to indoor spaces. Just outside the windows of this bedroom, our guests will catch glimpses of colorful herbs growing just steps away. My desire is to give them a place where the busyness of the world is pushed aside while the garden embraces them with its solitude.

Sometime during late October a decision will be made. Check back later for the big reveal!

One of my favorite herb beds in our backyard. It is overflowing with four different varieties of basil, French tarragon, marjoram, oregano and lemon verbena.
I have been growing herbs for over 30 years and still find new and exciting ways to use them every season of the year. They bring me great joy!
